Dedicated Glastonbury, CT Dentist

Get to Know Matthew P. Scoles, DMD, FAGD

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Scoles has always felt a calling to help people improve their health and wellbeing, and he really enjoys being able to work directly with his hands as well. From there, the dental field was a natural fit! He was also able to watch his father care for smiles while growing up and saw firsthand the tangible ways he helped others lead better lives, which was certainly inspiring as well.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Scoles’ educational career started with the completion of his Bachelor of Science from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Between his undergraduate education and dental school, he worked as a research assistant for the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement in Military Medicine in Rockville, VA, where he evaluated clinical trials for possible HIV vaccines. Then, he attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in Farmington, CT, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2005.

As for postgraduate education, Dr. Scoles attended a General Practice Residency at Hartford Hospital, where he developed a particular interest in becoming a dentist who sees the whole mouth and how everything works together. He has attended advanced training with SPEAR Education and is certified in Invisalign. He’s also attended many advanced courses in CEREC. He is currently a member of the following dental organizations:

  • American Dental Association
  • Connecticut Dental Association
  • American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • SPEAR Faculty Club

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Scoles and his wife Sara (who is a dentist in South Windsor) have two daughters named Emilia and Molly. When he isn’t busy at work, being with his family consumes most of his free time. Other hobbies include playing golf, brewing his own beer, cooking all types of BBQ on his smoker, and cheering on the Yankees. He is the current VP and past president of Friends of Glastonbury Youth, as well as a member of Faith Lutheran Church in East Hartford. He’s also very passionate about scuba diving and even has a saltwater reef tank at his house with fish and coral! If he hadn’t gone into dentistry, he’d definitely be working as a marine biologist instead.
