Meet the Dentist—Glastonbury, CT

Get to Know Julia Karpman, DMD

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

“Since high school, I knew that dentistry was the career for me. I have always loved to build relationships with people and to be able to provide healthcare to those in need. Dentistry combines my love for science, patient care, and art. I have always loved working with my hands, and dentistry provides me with the opportunity to do so on a daily basis. I could not have chosen a better career, and I am grateful for the ability to help my patients one smile at a time.”— Dr. Julia Karpman

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Karpman began her college career by completing her undergraduate education at the University of Connecticut, and she went on to obtain her dental doctorate at the UConn School of Dental Medicine.

Right afterward, she chose to refine her abilities by completing a one-year residency at Danbury Hospital. Through this program, she received advanced training in all aspects of dentistry, including restorative dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, implant dentistry, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. She worked hand-in-hand with specialists to treat complex cases and developed an arsenal of tools to provide comprehensive care for her patients. She also completed rotations in Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Medicine.

Since finishing this program, she has been very active in taking continuing education courses, attending ones focused on CEREC one-visit restorations, Invisalign, cosmetic dentistry, and many other topics. She also maintains active memberships in a number of professional organizations, including the

  • American Dental Association
  • Connecticut State Dental Association
  • American Academy of Clear Aligners

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Karpman and her husband Dave have two wonderful little boys named Lucas and Samuel. They consider themselves to be outdoor enthusiasts and have taken several trips to National Parks, including Yosemite, Yellowstone, Acadia, and Denali, and they look forward to exploring many more in the future! They often travel to Vermont in the winter to ski at their favorite mountain, Okemo. In the summer, they spend many weekends and holidays on the waters of Lake George. When at home, they love to be outside as much as possible. They spend their free time hiking, taking walks with their dog Cooper, doing yoga, and gardening. Dr. Karpman is also an avid baker and loves to try new recipes in the kitchen. She is a first-generation American whose parents emigrated from Moscow in 1991, so she is fluent in Russian as well as English.
